It All Began Here

We are thankful for the generations who laid the foundation of our church and passed down a faithful legacy. as we honor that legacy, we welcome fresh ideas and new expressions of faith that help us reach today’s world.

Our Story

Our church began in November 1888 as New Home Baptist Church, founded by a small group of faithful believers who gathered at the old Price School House. With eight charter members, the church was built on a deep commitment to worship and community. In 1890, the congregation moved to Winigan and met in the Masonic Hall, and by 1893, worship services were held at the newly built Union Church, where Baptists gathered on the first Sunday of each month.

As the church continued to grow, God provided new opportunities and a permanent home. In 1900, the church joined the Linn County Association, and by 1912, the need for more frequent worship led to the construction of a brick church building. At its dedication, the congregation officially became known as Winigan Baptist Church—a name that continues to reflect its lasting presence and faith in the community.

Continued Growth

As the church continued to grow, the Lord once again stirred the hearts of His people to move forward. In 1946, the congregation stepped out in faith, expanding the existing building to include new Sunday school classrooms, a baptistry, and a basement—spaces that were first used on July 28 of that year. .

Less than a decade later, the church again sensed the need to prepare for the future. In 1954, a building committee was formed, leading to plans for a new educational building. Ground was broken on November 14, 1955, and the completed building was joyfully dedicated in September 1956, marking another meaningful chapter in the church’s ongoing story

1 Corinthians 1:10

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
